“I know every one of your posters, Naoms. I’ve never seen this one.” A playful pinch to the back of her hand. “Tell me about it.”
Naomi shrugged. “It’s nothing, really. Just an old suffragette poster.”
“What’s in the corner?” Emily pointed to a grey shape. It looked faintly like a person.
“Oh, that’s my gran. She was only nine. Wasn’t even supposed to be there. She got in lots of trouble that day.” Naomi said it like it was no big deal. Emily was boggled.
Emily gawped at her with wide eyes. “I’ve seen this in textbooks. That’s your gran.”
“Yep.” A nonchalant pop on the ‘p.’
“She changed history.” Emily shook her head. “Unbelievable.”
“No,” Naomi demurred. “But she started to.”
“I always did like her best.”
“That’s a Gina Campbell original, isn’t it?”
“Your powers of deduction are astounding; really, they are.”
“You liked your gran best, eh?”
Naomi grinned, stretching her smile like a rubberband until it could hook behind her ears and stay there forever.
“Yeah, I did.”
“You come from a long line of impressive women, Naomi Campbell.”
“Probably why we annoy each other so much.”
“Still want to change the world?”
There was no bashful grin this time, only unfiltered truth gleaming in her eyes.
“Only if you’ll change it with me.”
